TurtleTree Assembles World-Class Scientific Advisory Board to Accelerate Innovation in Bioactive Nutrition

Test Update Renowned Experts in Metabolic Health, Clinical Research, and Consumer Wellness Join Forces to Guide Next Phase of Growth in TurtleTree

California – July 2025TurtleTree, a biotechnology company at the forefront of precision fermentation and functional nutrition, proudly announces the formation of its inaugural Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). This diverse and world-class panel brings together leading experts in metabolic health, clinical science, and consumer health innovation to support the company’s mission of delivering cutting-edge, bioactive ingredients, starting with TurtleTree’s precision-fermented lactoferrin (LF+).

The SAB will guide TurtleTree’s scientific strategy, clinical research programs, and regulatory roadmap, while offering insight into real-world applications of LF+ across adult nutrition, women’s health, wellness, and sports performance.

  • Dr. Aletta Schnitzler, Chief Scientific Officer of TurtleTree, with a PhD in Immunology and Neuroscience and deep expertise in cellular bioprocessing.
  • Dr. Robert Lustig – Globally recognized leader in metabolic health and nutrition, specializing in neuroendocrinology, with a mission to fix the world’s food supply.
  • James Taschetta – Business executive with extensive general management and consumer product marketing expertise in nutrition and alternative proteins, helping TurtleTree build a product-centric brand rooted in genuine consumer needs.
  • Dr. Julia Karnysh – Technology innovation leader in longevity and health, focused on ensuring the longevity movement prioritizes meaningful improvements in healthspan and quality of life.
  • Dr. Dana Lis – Internationally recognized sports dietitian focused on exercise gastroenterology and the athlete’s gut, with a unique approach to optimizing iron stores throughout training cycles rather than relying on a “supplement-then-decline” model.

Key early insights from the SAB include:

  • Beyond iron and gut health. Lactoferrin’s effects on inflammation, immunity, and stem cell health position it as a potential longevity-supporting molecule.
  • Designing studies for meaningful claims. Effective clinical validation begins with identifying consumer-relevant claims and thoughtfully designing studies to support them.
  • Performance-focused applications. Lactoferrin may help resolve the athlete’s “iron paradox,” offering a gentler alternative to traditional iron supplements for sports performance.

“We’re thrilled to welcome this exceptional group of scientists and strategists to our advisory board,” said Aletta Schnitzler, Chief Scientist of TurtleTree. “Their collective expertise will be key to transforming the deep science behind lactoferrin into clear, meaningful insights that help consumers support their health more effectively.

The formation of the SAB follows after TurtleTree’s recent FDA GRAS status, making its LF+ the first-ever precision-fermented lactoferrin to receive GRAS approval in the U.S.—a breakthrough moment for the entire food-tech ecosystem.

The SAB will play a key role in advancing clinical validation, shaping product development, and ensuring that TurtleTree’s ingredients continue to meet the highest standards of scientific rigor and real-world impact.
